George A. Pfeiffer

George A. Pfeiffer, 82, of River Bend, died on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post No. 2514. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock. He was a member of the River Bend Planning and Zoning Board. He enjoyed woodworking and had built baptismal crosses, the narthex lectern and processional cross for the church. He was also a co-surrogate parent at RHA Howell Care Center.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Daub officiating.

Burial with military honors will be 10 a.m. Monday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris L. Pfeiffer; two daughters, Karen Kelly of Wilmington and Debra Morriss of Charleston, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pollock-Best Funeral Home, New Bern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 U.S. Hwy. 70 W., Havelock, NC 28532; the RHA Howell Center, 140 Pirates Road, New Bern, NC 28562; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
