Gary Carl Cooper, 59, of New Bern, died on Friday, July 19, 2013.

He grew up in northwest Indiana and worked mostly in industrial and automotive sales until he became disabled in 1988. He was a member of several Baptist churches, including Pleasant Acres FWB Church in New Bern, having served on the deacon board, and as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and Awana leader, along with working as a sound technician and helping his wife with the children’s hand bell choir through the years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on cars and reading history on Abraham Lincoln.

Funeral will 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Acres FWB Church, 2911 Old Cherry Point Road, New Bern, with the Rev. Scott Coghill officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marsha Cooper; two sons, Christopher Cooper of Havelock and Jason Cooper of Hammond, Ind.; three brothers, Norman Cooper of Pelzer, S.C., Richard Cooper of Merrillville, Ind., and Jack Cooper of Phoenix; one sister, Alice Mick of Crown Point, Ind.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory, New Bern.
