Frank G. Markowski, Capt. USMC Ret., 79, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012.

A native of Plymouth, Pa., Frank was one of 16 children born to Stella Czaplitska and Boleslaw Markowski. A Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Frank served our nation with honor and distinction for over 29 years. After retirement, he provided 15 additional years of dedicated service as a civilian parts and supply contractor for the C-9 Squadron at Cherry Point, N.C.

Frank was a devoted husband, father and brother who shared his love of country, love of books and love for intense card play with all around him. He was a sports enthusiast and outdoorsman. As an avid fisherman, Frank found great joy in untangling lines, untangling knots, and pulling hooks from fingers of his three boys. Frank was a former board member of the Havelock Recreation Department, and was also an active member in the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. Throughout his life, he actively supported friends, neighbors and community.

Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Laila Strand Markowski, of Havelock, N.C.; his sons, David and wife Sharon, of Heidelberg, Germany; Bradley, of Winterville, N.C.; Gregory and wife Fabiola, of Great Lakes, Ill.; his brothers, Raymond Markowski, of Wolcott, N.Y.; Daniel Markowski, of Williamson, N.Y.; and his sister, Cecelia M. Andreno, of Long Island, N.Y. Frank is also survived by five deeply loved grandchildren: Rachel, William, Samantha, Gabriel and Laila.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012, during a memorial ceremony with full Military Honors at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, N.C.
