Emmett Clyde Harris

Emmett Clyde Harris, 92, of Greencastle, Ind., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Asbury Towers Retirement Community.

He was born on March 24, 1920, in the Bachelor community in the Clubfoot Creek area of Craven County. He graduated from Beaufort High School with the class of 1936 and attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in 1937. He served in the Presidential Honor Guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 and became a deck officer during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Columbia University and started a 30-year career with Citibank. After retirement, he joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, teaching international and personal finance.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Sims officiating.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pierrette; one daughter, Anne Harris; one son, Steven Harris; one sister, Ruth Dotger; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home, Morehead City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, care of secretary, Barry Murray, 110 Long Creek Drive, Havelock, NC 28532.
