Edward Theodore Padgett Sr., 82, of 122 Glen Drive, Havelock, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.
He was a native of Columbia, S.C. He retired from the Marine Corps, serving 21 years with a tour of duty during the Vietnam Conflict. His medals included the Vietnam Campaign medal, good conduct medal, MVC 2/Palm & Frame, VCG w/Palm & Frame and MCM w/V.
Graveside service with military honors will be noon Saturday at the Zion Temple AMEZ Church Cemetery, Adams Creek Road, Havelock, with the Rev. Thomas Fryar, officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hill Padgett of the home; four sons, Marcus Padgett and Edward T. Padgett Jr. of Havelock, Gary Padgett of Newport, and Desmond Hill Sr. of Havelock; three daughters, Paula Hill and Carol Hill of Havelock, and Marcia Hill of Chesapeake, Va.; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Oscar’s Mortuary, New Bern.
