Alton Lewis Amidon, 77, of Havelock, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.

He served 30 years in the Marine Corps, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was also a teacher in the community college system.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cherry Point base chapel.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Claire Amidon; one daughter, Kathleen Inge of Thornton, Colo.; four sons, Tom Amidon of White Pine, Tenn., Chris Amidon of Apex, Andy Amidon of Newport, R.I., and James Amidon of Pleasant Garden; one sister, Lois Gray of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, David Amidon of Hillsborough; and eight grandchildren.

Rosary will be 6 p.m. Monday at the Woodbridge Funeral Home Chapel, Havelock, followed by a visitation from 6:30 until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flight, Inc., Attn.: Diane Gresse, 300 E. Auburn Avenue, Springfield, Ohio, 45505.
