Ronald “Ron” Hemenway, 67, of Havelock, died Friday, July 6, 2018, with his wife and children by his side, after a long illness.

Ronald “Ron” Hemenway, 67, of Havelock, died Friday, July 6, 2018, with his wife and children by his side, after a long illness.

An Army veteran, he served in Vietnam for two years, earning many medals including Bronze Star and NYS Medal of Valor. He lived in Albany, N.Y., and was the Recruiting and Retention SGM for the state, retiring to North Carolina in 1993 after 26 years of service. He was a tool and parts specialist for DLA at Cherry Point and volunteered for multiple tours in Al Asad, Iraq.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, with the Rev. Bill Upah presiding. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, with military honors, at a later date.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Paula Ann Goitz Hemenway; one daughter, Bridget Floyd; one son, Michael Hemenway; four brothers, Dale Hemenway, Shawn Hemenway, Michael Hemenway and David Hemenway; stepmother, Shirley Hemenway; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Home Care and Hospice, 1423 S. Glenburnie Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
