HAVELOCK — Albert L. Francesconi, 100, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home.

Born in Hartford, CT in 1917, Albert grew up with a love for God, family, and music. In his later years he was an avid golfer.

A member of the Armed Services, Albert served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, the US Army Reserves, finally retiring from the US Air Force Reserves. While enlisted with the Reserves he was also employed as a civil servant at Cherry Point (O & R). In his later years, he repaired musical instruments at Fuller’s Music House.

A member of Annunciation Catholic Parish for over 50 years, Albert was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

Affectionately called “The Music Man” by many who knew him, he was the band leader for the Al-Louis Orchestra, a 16-piece swing band during the late 1980’s and 1990’s. They played at venues such as the Mum Festival in New Bern, the Cherry Point Officers Club and the Croker Festival in Oriental. In addition to the Al-Louis Orchestra, he was also a member of the Morehead City Community Band and the China Marines Band (WWII) respectively.

In the early 1950’s Albert was the first choir director for the churches in the Havelock area, and taught both bowling and music lessons.

Al was preceded in death by his parents Umberto and Maria Piacci Francesconi, his wife of 48 years Sybil Slade Francesconi, and his sister Esther Francesconi.

Surviving are his four children: Rose F. Brown of Havelock, Roberta F. Justice of Newport, Albert Francesconi II of Orlando, FL and Mark P. Francesconi of Tampa, FL, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 17th at Pollock-Best Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to Annunciation Catholic School, 246 E. Main Street, Havelock, NC 28532.
