Mr. Lawson Charlie Long, Sr. 85, of Salisbury, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Mr. Lawson Charlie Long, Sr. 85, of Salisbury, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Born October 10, 1932 in Sylva, NC to the late Flora Queen Long, he was a high school graduate. Mr. Long served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, two tours, and Vietnam War, four tours. He was a Supervisor Aviation Chief in the U.S. Marines for twenty years. Mr. Long was a member of the VFW.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ikuko Yoshioka Long on July 12, 2013; son, Bobby Long, and was the last sibling of his family of six.

Surviving are his sons, Lee Long and wife Rebecca of Southside, TN; Lawson Long, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Lexington, NC; Buddy Long and wife Franny of Denton, NC; daughters, Flora Tuttle and husband Russ of King, NC; Patricia Coulter and husband Tim of Georgia; Cathy Pighini and husband Richard of Lexington, NC; daughter-in-law, Sue Long of Lexington, NC and multiple grandchildren.

The family received friends 3-4 PM Wednesday (Jan. 10) at Summersett Funeral Home. A memorial service followed at 4 PM in Summersett Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 9 AM Thursday (Jan. 11) at U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd location.
