Mrs. Shirley Anne Selepes, 85, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her daughters.

HAVELOCK — Mrs. Shirley Anne Selepes, 85, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her daughters. A native of Providence, RI, Shirley was very active in the Havelock Civitan Club, serving in many positions over the years including President. She was District Governor for North Carolina East Civitans and received many awards including Fellow awards for the International Research Center, Foundation, and Junior Foundation. Shirley was the District Lioness in 1985 after serving as President the previous 2 years. She was active in the Havelock High School Booster Club for many years and enjoyed working on their many projects. She especially enjoyed being the Official Time Keeper for the football games, doing this for several years.

Shirley was also a charter member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, the Garden Club of Havelock, Board of Elections Chief Judge, Friends of Havelock Library, Boys and Girls Club of Lake Waccamaw, Ombudsman in Craven County for many years, Craven Arts Council, and a die-hard ECU Pirates Club member. She would often say “I bleed Purple and Gold.” Shirley was an avid bridge player and a loving, honest woman who “told it like it was.” She will be missed by all who knew her. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael F. Selepes, Jr., her sons, Michael F. Selepes, III, and Mark F. Selepes.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Marcie E. Peterson, of Leesburg, VA; Marla S. Flores, and husband Steve, of Roseville, CA; and Michele S. Adams, and husband Eddie, of New Bern, NC. She also leaves behind her 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren (and 2 on the way), and her great-great grandson.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Rev. George Feldman officiating.
