Marion Lupoli Boulia, “Mrs. B.,” 86, of Havelock, died Saturday January 7. She was the third of 5 children born on June 17, 1930 in New Haven, CT., a daughter of the late Gennaro and Alice Lupoli.
Mrs. Boulia served in the USMC 1953-54 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. While stationed in Parris Island, SC., she met Sgt. Paul V. Boulia, also stationed at Parris Island, SC., and was married on November 7, 1953. They shared 44 loving years together until his passing on April 1, 1998. Mrs. Boulia was a graduate of Carteret Technical College.
“Mrs. B.” enjoyed various career opportunities over the course of her life. The USMC provided her training within the Defense Messaging System, formerly known as “AUTODIN”, where she applied those skills at MCAS Cherry Point Communications Center and aspired to senior Supervisor retiring in 1991 after 30 years as a Federal Civil Servant. Though this was not her only job over the course of her lifetime; she worked closely with her husband “Mr. B.” as owner and operator of the former Havelock Bake and Snack Shop, Jolly Pizza, which soon merged with Mr. B’s, to become Mr. B’s Jolly Pizza.
After her Federal Service retirement in 1991, Marion enjoyed another 20 years as comptroller of Boulia Construction & Restoration. As a family owned business she loved working with her children, seeing them daily, and enjoying her time spent with them. Marion was a member of the Women Marine Association, American Business Women’s Association, and the Newport Women of the Moose.
Mrs. Boulia is survived by sons Michael C. Boulia and wife Terri Lea, William P. Boulia, all of Newport, son Gerald A. Boulia and wife Charlotte of Havelock, daughter Annette Boulia and husband John Kirby of Newport, and her dear, loving and trusted friend & caregiver, Susan Scott Deane of Havelock; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Carmen M. Lupoli and sister Geraldine A. Lupoli both of Orange, CT. Sisters Madeline L. Carloni and Lenora L. Erickson preceded Mrs. Boulia in death.
A visitation will be held Thursday January 12, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. A church service will be held Friday January 13, 2017 at 11 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock and following with a burial at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
