Alvia Hearren, 92, of New Bern, died on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016.

A native of Missouri, he grew up in Michigan and joined the Marine Corps in 1942, serving during World War II. In 1946, he began working at Cherry Point and retired as a production control division director. He was a member of Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church, NRAFE and the Civitan Club. He was a member of many Masonic bodies and helped found Grantham Lodge in 1961. He received his 33rd degree “White Hat” for his Scottish Rite work.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park with military honors and Masonic Funeral Rights.

He is survived by two sons, Alvia Hearren Jr. and Raymond Hearren; three daughters, Cynthia H. Avery, Elizabeth Galloway and Celia Hearren; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren;

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church, 2011 Old Cherry Point Road, New Bern, NC 28560, Craven County Hospice or a charity of choice.
