Modifications to solid waste pickup streets/days announced

The City of Havelock solid waste contractor has modified streets included in the Thursday and Friday  trash pickup days.

After signing off on five divided sections of the city, Waste Industries representatives realized they would be picking up garbage at 1,400 residences on Thursday.

Some of the Thursday streets have been changed to Friday pickup. Updated maps detailing the new arrangement were distributed to all residences earlier this week.

In addition, the start of delivery of more than 3,700 roll out carts has been postponed until Friday morning.

The deliveries had been scheduled to begin on Thursday, but due to the contractor’s prior obligations in Topsail Beach and Selma, the deliveries have been pushed back by one day.

According to city spokesperson Diane Miller, the deliveries will continue Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and will be ready for the planned Wednesday, July 1 launch of the new solid waste collection program.
