Drug suspects rounded up

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Department charged 13 suspected drug dealers Monday during an operation in the Bogue Pines and Whispering Pines mobile home parks, authorities say.

Warrants were issued for 16 suspects, 13 of whom have been arrested. Those charged include:

  • Heather Dennett, 24, of Redwood Drive in Newport, was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine; two counts of sell and deliver cocaine; three counts of trafficking opium. Bond was set at $100,000.
  • Alisha Pope, 32, of Spruce Pines Drive in Newport, was charged with six counts of trafficking opium. Bond was set at $100,000.
  • Michael McKay, 46, of Fairway Drive in Morehead City, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule III controlled substance; sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; and sell and deliver a schedule III controlled substance. Bond was set at $100,000.
  • Richard Smith, 33, of Spruce Pines Drive in Newport, was charged with three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance; and three counts of sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000.
  • Sharon Salter, 52, of South Lewis Street in Newport, was charged with four counts of trafficking in opium. Bond was set at $100,000.
  • Brian Rumsey, 31, of Sequoia Drive in Newport, was charged with three counts of trafficking in opium and two counts of sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance. Bond was set at $50,000.
  • Stephen Hill, 21, of Norfolk Drive in Newport, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; and sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance. Bond was set at $10,000.
  • Stephen Hutson, 22, of Sequoia Drive in Newport, was charged with four counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; three counts of sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; and two counts of deliver a schedule II controlled substance. Bond was set at $100,000.
  • Tammy Keziah, 49, of Karobi Park Drive, was charged with three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; and three counts of sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance. Bond was set at $7,500.
  • Deric Garner, 34, of Center Street in Newport, was charged with three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance; three counts of sell and deliver schedule VI controlled substance; and maintaining a vehicle to sell or keep a controlled substance. Bond was set at $10,000.
  • William Borden, 30, of Chatham Street in Newport, was charged with four counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; four counts of sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance; and selling and delivering a schedule VI controlled substance. Bond was set at $50,000.
  • Van L. Coleman, 23, of Spruce Pines Drive in Newport, was charged with four counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; two counts of possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance; four counts of sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; two counts of sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance; and two counts of maintaining a vehicle to sell or keep a controlled substance. Bond was set at $15,000.
  • Susan Hart, 46, of the Hostess House Motel, was charged with six counts of trafficking in opium. Bonds totaled $100,000.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Department, many of the accused were reported by citizens in their communities. Over many months, detectives conducted numerous controlled purchases of illegal drugs from suspected dealers.
