Snow, sleet end; cold remains

An area of sleet and snow moved into southern Craven County this morning as a cold front swept across North Carolina.

Areas of snow were reported earlier today from Greenville northward, but by 9 a.m., the frozen precipitation migrated south through New Bern, James City and Havelock.

Temperatures hovered above freezing, so the winter mixture did not cause major road hazards.

It is the second time this week flakes have fallen on Havelock. Tuesday afternoon, bursts of snow flurries scattered on blustery winds hit Havelock.

The last of the snow exited the area around 1 p.m., and accumulation was reported, according to the National Weather Service in Newport.

It will, however, remain cold. Lows tonight are expected to be in the low to mid 20s, according to the National Weather Service, with highs Saturday in the middle 40s.
