Power companies gear up
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Power companies are getting geared up to handle Tropical Storm Hanna.
Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative workers are checking equipment and supplies to handle power outages in the area caused by Tropical Storm Hanna, according to a release.
The cooperative has a computer system that informs officials of widespread outages, so most times customers do not need to call to report outages. However, officials advise customers to report outages if others in your area do have power. That number is 247-3107.
The cooperative supplies power to about 40,000 customers in Craven, Carteret, Jones and Onslow counties.
Progress Energy is also taking steps to get ready for the storm, according to officials.
Officials with both companies remind residents to never touch fallen power lines, as even though they are on the ground, they could still be carrying power.
Progress Energy customers can report power outages by calling 1-800-419-6356.
