Platt said she forms personal connections with those who purchase books.

“I was talking to one of my business associates the other day, and it’s almost like we’ve become this giant family because they all tell me their stories,” Platt said. “It’s cool to get to know people in Japan that I would never come in contact with. We had one family in Germany that I got to know through the process.

“It’s really awesome. It’s such a great feeling know that you’re making a difference all over.”

On top of that, $3 from each book is donated to the Lone Survivor Foundation.

“I try to make everyone as aware as possible of what some warriors go through on a daily basis,” she said. “It’s a really cool organization with everything they do with their healing retreats. Reading the stories and the testimonials of those people, it makes you want to change your life and help people.”

The Military Spouse of the Year award is sponsored through Armed Forces Insurance.
