Another witness said the woman cartwheeled several times before coming to rest in the left lane. The bike continued rolling for about 200 feet before falling over, another witness said.

Oxendine was driving a dark blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was wearing a helmet.

Motorists stopped immediately to help the woman.

Havelock Fire and Rescue responded and called in an EastCare helicopter. The injured cyclist was loaded onto the helicopter from a landing zone just east of the Navy Federal building on U.S. 70.

The helicopter took off with the woman at 3:59 p.m. bound for Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Cyrus said it was unclear charges would be filed in the wreck.

“All that will be pending the investigation,” he said. “The other factors associated with it have yet to be determined.”
