A New Bern woman was cited after she drove her car into a pond at the Carolina Pines Golf and Country Club.
Sarah Brown, 23, was charged with failing to report an accident, unsafe tires and reckless driving, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
According to a report filed by Trooper J.D. Leitschuh, the wreck was reported at 7 a.m. Sunday but happened sometime during the overnight.
Brown was driving a 2002 Chevy passenger car west on East Palmer Drive. The road takes a sharp right turn, but instead Brown crossed the center line, ran off the left shoulder of the road and continued straight, running off the road and into the pond, according to the report. Brown was apparently not injured and left the scene, failing to report the crash.
A woman on a walk Sunday morning discovered the vehicle in the pond and contacted authorities. The front part of the vehicle was submerged but the back end was only partially submerged and still visible from the nearby road.
A tow truck was needed to haul the vehicle from the pond, which is located on the 18th hole of the golf course. The vehicle left trenches to part of the course but an exact amount of the damage was not known. The course remained opened, and the incident did not impede any golfers.
