A Havelock woman was killed in a two-car wreck Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 70 and Stately Pines Road.
Veronica Fennell, 71, of Havelock, died when she attempted to pull out of Stately Pines Road and collided with another vehicle, according to Adrian L. Wilhoit, spokeswoman for the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at 3:54 p.m. Wilhoit said Fennell was heading south on Stately Pines Road in a 2002 Mazda and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 70. Fennell was attempting to turn left to go in the direction of Havelock and pulled out into the path of Jaelah Hicks, 30, of New Bern, who was heading west on U.S. 70 in a 2002 Hyundai. The collision impacted the driver side of Fennell’s Mazda.
Fennell was killed, while Hicks and three children in her vehicle were transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern where they were treated and released, Wilhoit said.
Trooper J.A. Magana of the N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
