A 16-year-old Havelock student was arrested Wednesday after a pocket knife was found in his book bag.
Casy Lee Hester, of Havelock, was arrested about 12:35 p.m. at Havelock High School by the school resource officer, Havelock Police Chief G. Wayne Cyrus said.
“There never was a danger to any other student of faculty member at the school and the arrest occurred without incident,” Cyrus said.
Hester was charged with possession of a weapon on school property other than a firearm or explosives.
Cyrus said that the school resource officer, Havelock Police Officer Brad Elam, was notified by school administrators that a teacher suspected a student to have a weapon of unknown type in a book bag.
“She was alerted to the fact that there may be a weapon in the bag when the student placed the bag on the floor and it made a loud clunking noise,” Cyrus said. “The teacher suspected that there was something in the bag other than schools supplies or books,”
According to the officer, a pocket-style knife with a two-inch blade was confiscated, Cyrus said.
Hester has a court date of Oct. 3.
