Havelock High teachers, students and former students have been expressing their emotions about the death Friday of math teacher Amanda Lawrence-Lane.

Lawrence-Lane was at the school and collapsed around 10:30 a.m. Friday. She later died at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, according to a statement from Craven County Schools.

Lawrence-Lane was recently married in December to Jeremy Lane, who is reportedly from Greene County, and had a stepson, Alex.

“Mrs. Lawrence had been a valued member of the Havelock High School faculty since 2002,” according to the schools statement. “ … She was a dedicated teacher who cared about her students and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.”

One Havelock High student, Ashley Buffa, wrote a song called “She’s Home” and dedicated it to Lawrence-Lane. She has posted it on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SN2yH3zLUMo.

“I was a witness to her death, and it was heartbreaking and traumatizing,” Buffa said online in describing the song. “I had a lot of emotions that I didn’t know how to process, and I needed to express them somehow. I went home and I wrote this song. It really helped me to come to terms with everything. I hope that this song can help other people too with the deaths of loved ones.”
