A 23-year-old man is in jail after he allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed his mother’s chest at their Newport home Saturday afternoon, according to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.

The man became angry after his mother confronted him about “the unauthorized use of her vehicle,” Carteret Major Jason Wank, chief detective, wrote in a press release.

Carteret deputies arrested Taylor Douglas Hill, 23, of 684 Roberts Road, Lot 13, Cedar Creek Resort Mobile Home Park, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and resisting an officer. Hill was arrested Saturday afternoon at his residence, the scene of the alleged stabbing.

Wank said deputies received the call just before 4:30 p.m. Hill’s 51-year-old mother called 911.

She was taken to Carteret General Hospital and Saturday night was in fair to serious condition, Wank wrote.

Hill was held at Carteret County Jail on $150,000 bond.

His first court appearance is scheduled for today
