A Carteret County man with a history of breaking and entering offenses is back in jail accused of stealing from neighbors and selling some of the goods on Craigslist, authorities said.
Craig Michael Ethier, 21, of 318 West Southwinds Drive, Newport, remained in the Carteret County Jail under a $50,000 bond Monday following his latest charges by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.
Ethier is accused of going through the Paradise East community where he lives and breaking into the homes, cars, sheds and garages of his neighbors. He is also charged with break-ins in surrounding subdivisions, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The sheriff’s office said the case against Ethier is an active investigation and detectives are still sorting through reports and property.
Some stolen property was recovered underneath a nearby vacant residence and some Ethier has allegedly sold on Craigslist.
Ethier was initially taken into custody June 4, and the sheriff’s office served additional warrants on Saturday.
His current charges include seven counts of breaking and entering vehicles; three counts of residential breaking and entering; one count of burglary; one count of larceny of a firearm; 13 counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods; and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.
The sheriff’s office said additional charges are pending as recovered property is matched to victim reports.
Ethier has a history of breaking and entering and was released from prison in November 2012 after serving two years in prison after being convicted of more than 25 similar charges for offenses in the same neighborhood, according to the release.
