Madison Rising, a nationally-known musical act, is scheduled to headline National Night Out Saturday in Havelock.

The band promotes patriotism and personal responsibility with its hard-rock style of music, according to Lt. Brian Woods, of the Havelock Police Department.

“This is the first year that we’ve tried to bring in a bigger band,” Woods said. “It’s the first time the group has ever performed in Havelock.”

He said he hoped the band would attract younger members of the community to attend the event.

“We are hoping with their genre of music we will draw some young folks, particularly some of the younger military members, who we hope will come out,” Woods said.

National Night Out is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Walter B. Jones Park in Havelock. An opening ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m., followed by music from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band. Madison Rising is scheduled to take the stage at 6:30 p.m.

“It’s a very popular event,” Woods said of National Night Out. “We’re able to build this partnership with the community. We’ve all bought into it to try to make Havelock a safer place to live. We just want to strengthen our community.”
