Mumfest expected to draw crowd to New Bern this weekend

New Bern’s largest outdoor festival — Mumfest — is expected to draw crowds of 90,000 visitors over two days on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 300 commercial and nonprofit exhibitors will be on hand with pottery, crafts and art, along with dozens of food booths.

Free entertainment includes live bands with music ranging from beach to barbershop, along with dance troupes, magicians, roving street performers, face painters, and clowns.

There’s also a riverfront amusement park with lots of ticketed rides.

The main stage is in front of the Galley Store on East Front Street, with a lineup that includes Spiritmaster; The Wannabees; Carolina Casuals; Southern Gentlemen Chorus; and Billy Holton and the Soul Shakers. The music Saturday is from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Also Saturday, a dance performance area is located on Broad Street between the Craven County Administration Building and the Sudan Shrine Center. Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., the performers include Dance Theatre; Southern Charmers; Margaret Fletcher Dance Studio; Kountry Kickers; Shimmy Shakerz; Happy Feet School of Dance; Wanda Kay’s; Down East Dance; ‘Apsara’ Kaitlyn Bellydance; Get the Pointe Dance Studio; Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corp; New Bern High Drill Team; Glory 2 Glory and the James City Steppers.
