A two-car crash Monday morning on Greenfield Heights Boulevard sent a Havelock woman to the hospital and resulted in charges against another driver.

Savannah Sandoval, 18, of Havelock, was treated and released from CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Sandoval was traveling west on Greenfield Heights Boulevard in a 2008 Pontiac passenger car around 11 a.m. when she was sideswiped by a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Dale Maxwell, 62, of New Bern, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Maxwell was traveling east when he ran off the right shoulder, lost control, came onto the roadway and sideswiped Sandoval’s car. Sandoval’s vehicle spun sideways after being struck, ran off the left shoulder of the road and overturned in a ditch, according to the highway patrol.

Maxwell was not injured in the wreck.

Havelock rescue personnel responded and transported Sandoval to the hospital.

Maxwell was charged with exceeding a safe speed and driving left of center.
