North’s mother Judy Payne talked about her son going to school and wrestling and growing into a strong man who became a Marine.

“He was a blessing to me — all our family,” she said. “His spirit touched us all and comforted me.”

Marines in dress blues gave North a 21-gun salute in front of the funeral home, and about 200 bikers from several clubs wore their colors in respect.

Liverano said the diversity of people at the memorial service showed the type of person North was.

“He loved everyone,” Liverano said.

North served 12 years in the Marine Corps. When he retired from Cherry Point, he stayed in the area.

North, who was known to work out constantly, was a hulking figure and found work after the Marine Corps as security at numerous local nightclubs and bars.
