A Pennsylvania man has been charged with driving while impaired in connection with a crash that sent three people to the hospital on Friday in Havelock.

Harry G. Peck, 52, of Titusville, Pa., was charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center in connection with the four-car crash at 4:02 p.m. Friday on Fontana Boulevard, according to the Havelock Police Department.

Peck and Katherine Morgan, 29, of Beaufort, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla, were both airlifted from the scene via Cherry Point Search and Rescue Helicopter Pedro to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Both were listed in fair condition on Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A third victim was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, but a hospital spokeswoman reported having no record of admittance for that person.

According to police, Peck was driving west in a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck and had just rounded a curve when he crossed the center line near Outer Banks Drive and sideswiped an eastbound 2006 Toyota Camry driven by James Marcelin, 27, of Havelock. Marcelin’s car ran off the right side of road into a ditch.

Peck then struck Morgan’s Corolla head-on and then bounced into a 2000 Toyota Sienna van driven by Gale Jones, 55, of Beaufort.

After the impact, Peck’s pickup truck caught fire and witnesses at the scene pulled him out of the burning vehicle.
