Three children who ended up getting lost in the Croatan National Forest in Newport were found safe on Monday afternoon.

The children, ages 10, 12 and 13, are OK and were not hurt after apparently getting lost as they explored the woods near Newport.

Marine Corps rescue helicopter Pedro located the children and helped bring them to safety, according to Carteret County Sheriff Asa Buck.

Buck said the search began Monday afternoon when the children called 911 and told authorities that they were lost in the woods.
