One event not impacted by the weather will be the Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation Gala scheduled for Friday night at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center. Foundation officials say the event will go on as planned, and tickets are still available for the fundraiser. Call 444-4348 for more information.

Businesses that had been closed Wednesday were reopening on Thursday, and many of the city’s grocery and retail stores and restaurants were getting back to work.

The Havelock area received about 2 inches of sleet and snow from a winter storm Tuesday and Wednesday that covered roads and created a winter playland for many children and adults alike. Temperatures dropped into the middle 20s Wednesday night, creating sheets of ice on the roads.

Clearing skies and temperatures into the middle and upper 30s could lead to some melting of the snow and ice on Thursday, but low temperatures into the upper 20s could cause refreezing of roads overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Afterward, a warming trend begins, with highs near 50 on Friday and near 60 on Saturday. Sunday brings temperatures into the middle 60s and a 40 percent chance of rain, according to the weather service.
