Police are seeking suspects in a shooting Friday in the parking lot of Kelly Park Apartments in Havelock.

The unidentified victim was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern then flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was reportedly shot twice in the leg but was alert at the scene.

Two men, described as black with dreadlocks, fled the scene in what was described as a brownish/reddish Suzuki SUV and have not been caught.

Shots rang out about 12:20 p.m. in the central parking lot at the apartment complex just off Shipman Road.

“We were all in here. We heard the shots,” said Donald Smith, a witness. “The guy was down there laying down. The guy that done it was gone.”

According to witnesses and the initial investigation, the suspect and victim were involved in a fight in the parking lot when the shooting happened.

“I walked by there and they were already fighting,” witness Gary Wallace said. “The one that was doing the shooting was getting his tail beat. I guess he retaliated.”
