Havelock police busted up a party that “was out of control” early Sunday morning, charging more than 20 teens with underage drinking and the mother of one of those teens for supplying the alcohol.
Rosemary Talley, 41, of 118 Legacy Lane, Havelock, faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, selling or giving alcohol (beer/unfortified wine) to underage persons, and maintaining a dwelling for use of a controlled substance, according to Havelock police. Talley was placed in the Craven County Jail under a $10,000 bond.
Havelock Police Captain David Bratton said that Talley, whose son was among those cited for underage drinking, told police that she was in her bedroom and unaware that about 30 teenagers were inside her home drinking.
Bratton said that officers on patrol early Sunday morning near 118 Legacy Lane encountered a large group of teenagers in the street.
“The juveniles told the officers that there was a party that was out of control and people were drinking and smoking weed,” Bratton said. “The odor of marijuana was strong in the yard as well as up at the house.”
Bratton said the officers went to the door and identified themselves as police.
“They could hear the kids inside laughing and they could see numerous people running up and down the stairs and they could hear the toilets flushing,” Bratton said.
Bratton said the officers asked to enter the residence but one youth slammed the door shut. At that point, police secured a warrant to enter the residence, finding 22 teenagers on the first floor and nine more on the second.
One person, Travis S. Mullins, 16, attempted to flee the residence and was arrested and charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying an officer as well as consumption of alcohol by a person under 21. He was taken into custody and given a $1,000 bond, according to Bratton.
Others charged with consumption of alcohol by a person under age 21 include: Brenna Angelo, 18; Samantha Blane, 16; Mathew Key Boykin, 17; Nigel Brown, 16; Jessie Campbell, 16; Kala Chicas, 17; Iyonia Coleman, 17; Brittney Doughery, 17; Austin Ellington, 17; Dallas Frazier, 16; Keion Joyner, 16; Jacob Felix Montanez, 17; Trey Michael Owens, 16; Ni’Zhaiya Turner, 16; Jonah Wall, 19; Machala Warmuth, 16; Maddison White, 16; Adrian Young 18; and Andriana Young, 16.
Bratton said three others under the age of 16 were issued juvenile petitions for underage drinking but he could not release those names because of their ages.
Bratton said parents of the teenagers cited were called and took their children home.
Bratton said a small amount of marijuana was found in the toilet bowl of the residence during the search.
