Havelock moped rider remains in critical condition

A Havelock man remains in critical condition in the hospital after the moped he was riding was struck by a car on Sunday night on Greenfield Heights Boulevard.

Ryan Everett, 35, was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. A hospital spokesman said Wednesday that Everett was in critical condition. A family member said he was in the intensive care unit.

Michael Sides, 19, has been charged with reckless driving in connection with the crash, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

According to the patrol’s investigation, Sides was driving north when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided with Everett, who was driving south. The crash happend at 10:27 p.m. Sunday just south of Anne Drive, about a half mile from U.S. 70.
