Students may not always have money to purchase gifts this Christmas season.

Still, students at Havelock High School found something priceless to give on Friday, and they gave it to those they don’t even know — the gift of life.

The Havelock High student council held a blood drive on Friday, with students donating 109 pints of blood.

For junior Omar Gonzalez, the drive was the first time he had ever given blood. He bit his bottom lip as a nurse pricked his arm and inserted the needle into the vein in his left arm.

"It’s not as bad as I thought," he said.

Gonzalez was sitting back as an American Red Cross nurse came over to check his status.

"It’s coming out slow," she told him.
