The Havelock Board of Commissioners is scheduled to discuss renovations to the city's animal shelter during its meeting on Monday night.
The city had tentatively budgeted $42,600 for the project but the lowest construction bid the city received on the project was $66,460, with a high bid of $103,000.
Police Chief G.Wayne Cyrus, whose department oversees operation of the shelter, as well as Bill Ebron, director of public services, believe the project is needed. Commissioners are being asked to provide more money for the project.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Havelock City Hall. The meeting begins with an opportunity for residents to address the commissioners and mayor.
