Havelock board to get update on military lobbying efforts

The Havelock Board of Commissioners is scheduled to get a military update from its paid lobbying firm during a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Havelock City Hall.

Pete Rose, a consultant with the Franklin Partnership, along with James Norment, a Ward and Smith lawyer who represents the Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow lobby group, are scheduled to meet with the board during the meeting. They are expected to provide an overview of Base Realignment and Closure, including what has happened in the past and what could happen in the future.

They are also expected to discuss the status of lobbying efforts on behalf of Cherry Point.

The Board of Commissioners recently approved spending an extra $3,800 for the Franklin Partnership to lobby on behalf of Cherry Point, expanding its role as a city lobbyist in Washington, D.C. As part of that price, the board wanted a meeting to get a full understanding of the lobbying efforts.
