About 70 students from pre-school to college will come together for a colorful event called "Nuts About Christmas" at the Center for the Performing Arts in Havelock.
The program will include part of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, and again at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 and 2 p.m. Dec. 22 at the center located off East Main Street.
The cost is $3 per ticket, with seating for around 200. Tickets can be purchased in advance from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays at the center.
Mary Beth Beasley, organizer and artistic director at the center, said the program is about an hour and 15 minutes, which includes a brief intermission.
Students from the center’s drama and dance departments are participating in the show.
"The first act is a medley of Christmas carols where the kids will demonstrate what they’ve learned in tap, pop and contemporary dance," Beasley said. "The second act is the traditional story of the Nutcracker, which follows Clara and her adventures with the Nutcracker as she fights to save the Nutcracker in the battle scene. After the battle, they travel through the Land of the Snow to arrive at the Land of the Sweets."
Specially designed scenery and special effects highlight the classic Tchaikovsky score.
"The props and special effects help bring to life the magic of Clara’s dream," Beasley said.
