Those looking for clothing in Havelock will have another option starting Thursday.

Goody’s department store will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m., Thursday and the doors will swing open at 9 a.m.

The national chain store will have 12,200 square feet of retail space at 349 West Main St., the former site of Gregg’s Furniture and the A&P grocery store.

The first 50 people in the store will receive gift bags.

"We’re hoping to be an asset to the community," store manager Hayley Sullivan said as preparations for the opening continued on Monday. "There’s nothing really like this here, so I think we’ll do really well. We strive on customer service and making this store part of the town. Goody’s is a small-town store, so I think we’ll do really well here."

Goody’s has hired 20 employees to work in the store, Sullivan said.

"We have a really good team. All of them are from Havelock," she said. "We’ve been in the store about a month. We’ve been setting up fixtures. We just got the clothes in. They’ve been helping merchandise, tagging, folding, learning register training, all that stuff to get the store up and going. They’re all real excited to see the finished project on Thursday and see it all come together."
