10:20 p.m. update

The Sound of Freedom Shoppes was being evacuated because of the smell of gas.

Havelock fire and rescue as well as police were responding to the area where a car crashed Thursday afternoon resulting in a broken main distribution line.

A call came in at 10:15 a.m. Monday reporting a gas leak in the same area.

The service road in front of the Sound of Freedom Shoppes was closed, but U.S. 70 remained open to traffic, unlike last week when the closure of the highway resulted in massive traffic jams.
