All eyes look to the skies this weekend with the 2014 Cherry Point Air Show.
The event features the Friday Night Show, along with days shows on Saturday and Sunday.
Parking and admission are free, though boxseat, grandstand and chalet upgrades are available at various costs.
Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday with flying from 5:45 to 10 p.m., concluding with a fireworks show.
Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with flying from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It is the largest air show in the Carolinas and one of the largest military events of its type in the Southeast.
Friday’s night show will have a variety of aerial pyrotechnic displays, afterburner flybys, roaring afterburner display of the Smoke-n-Thunder jet car, the Black Dagger Skydivers, a wall of fire ordnance demonstration and a large fireworks display set to patriotic music.
Highlights of the day shows include the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter, the Black Diamond Jet Team, a Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration, the Smoke-n-Thunder jet car, a host of civilian and military aerobatic demonstrations, a fun zone for the children, plus historic and modern static aircraft displays on the flight line.
Saturday after the show, country musician Bryan Mayer, whose songs include “This is Me” and “Leaving Town,” will put on a concert beginning at 4:30 p.m.
