Coastal Carolina Fair set to open tonight

The Coastal Carolina Agriculture Fair is scheduled to begin today at the Craven County fairgrounds on U.S. 70 between Havelock and New Bern.

It is the only agricultural fair held each year in Craven, Carteret, Jones and Pamlico counties, and it is one of the Craven County Jaycee’s largest projects.

The fair runs for 11 days through Oct. 27 and serves as a major fundraiser for the Jaycees, which provides funds for various charitable groups.

The fair opens with Got to Be N.C. Agriculture Night. The Jaycees donate $1 from each gate admission to toward the N.C. Grown Food Products to support local soup kitchens — Religious Community Services in New Bern and Hope Mission in Morehead City.

Carnival wristbands are $15 each, which includes rides, while general admission is $5 for adults and children more than 4 years old. Some discounts may apply, with specials and other information listed on the fair’s website at

The gates open at 5:30 p.m. during weekdays, at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Daily entertainment includes chainsaw woodcarving, McNally Farm Racing Pigs, a fossil dig, and displays of vintage farm equipment and miniature trains.
