Children and parents will have the opportunity to decorate snow flakes that will be sent to Newtown, Conn., where they will be used to help decorate the temporary school students will be attending when they return to class after the Christmas holidays.

Monetary donations will be collected to help purchase needed school items for the students as well as to help offset funeral costs for the victims. The donations will be administered through the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program Hope Initiative.

Twenty school children were killed, along with six faculty and staff members, in a mass shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The gunman then shot himself as police arrived on the scene.
