In the news release, Newport Police Chief Jeff Clark said the department worked with multiple agencies in the investigation, including detectives from Atlantic Beach and Morehead City police departments, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, and federal agents from Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms and NCIS.

“This is an excellent example of multiple agencies cooperating and sharing intelligence which ultimately led to significant arrests within 48 hours of a major crime,” Clark said.

The suspects were tracked on U.S. 70, through Havelock and eventually pulled over outside Havelock near Catfish Lake Road. Clark said that when the three were taken into custody they were in possession of multiple firearms and at least one of the firearms is believed to be the one used in the home invasion.

According to information in the news release, Moss and West are convicted felons with prior criminal histories. In addition to Tuesday’s charges, West is facing felony drug and weapon charges in Carteret County. At the time of his arrest, Moss was wanted by Virginia authorities for a probation violation.

The following charges were filed against the suspects following their latest arrest.

Moss was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury; one count of first-degree burglary; five counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon; three counts of first-degree kidnapping; and two counts of second-degree kidnapping related to the home invasion.

He also faces charges in Craven County for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
