    Havelock News

Havelock police have arrested three Newport men in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles in the Stonebridge and Tucker Creek areas, according to a release from the city.

Matthew Charles Smith, 22, Carlos Daniel Simmons, 21, and Christopher Paul Clark, 19, all face multiple charges, according to the release. A fourth suspect has been identified and charges are pending, but that suspect's name has not been released.

Items were stolen from at least eight vehicles - all of which were unlocked, according to police - the night of June 24 or the early morning of June 25 in the Stonebridge area. Items taken included a digital camera, DVD players, a GPS unit, a cell phone and stereo system face plates, among other items.

Havelock police cited cooporation with the Morehead City Police Department in the investigation that led to the arrests.

Smith is charged with two counts of identity theft, conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense, felony breaking and entering of a residence and felony larceny, according to the release.

Simmons is charged with conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, felony breaking and entering of a residence and misdemeanor larceny, according to the release.

Clark is charged with four counts of felony breaking and entering of a residence, felony larceny and three counts of misdemeanor larceny, according to the release.

The three were taken to the Craven County Jail, but bond information was unavailable.

Havelock police recovered items that they believe were stolen. However, some of those items have not been reported as stolen. Police are asking residents who may have been victims of a vehicle break-in within the last 30 days but did not report the incident to contact the department at 447-3212 for possible recovery of the items.
