Two wrecks send five people to hospitals
Comments 0Two wrecks within 15 minutes of each other on opposite sides of Havelock Wednesday sent five people to the hospital.
The first crash involved three cars and happened around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 70 and Slocum Road. One lane of westbound U.S. 70 was blocked, and traffic backed up on both roads.
As of Thursday morning, a report from Havelock police on the cause of the crash was unavailable.
At least two people were transported to Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern. Their conditions were not available, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Two of the vehicles involved came to rest in the road, while a blue compact car slid off the road into a ditch, where rescue personnel were tending to the victims.
The second crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of McCotter Boulevard and U.S. 70 Wednesday. The wreck sent three people to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. The extent of their injuries was unavailable.
As of Thursday morning, a report from Havelock police on the cause of the crash was unavailable.
