Harlowe man arrested in shooting
A Harlowe man is in the Craven County Jail charged with shooting a shotgun into a residence and injuring another man Sunday afternoon.
Scottie Manning, 56, of 275 Prichard Ave., was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, said Capt. Joe Heckman of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.
Heckman identified the victim as Victor Edward Manning, 32, also a resident of the mobile home at 275 Prichard Ave. He was not seriously injured.
Heckman said he was unsure how or if the two men were related.
Heckman said that deputies were called to the residence off Adams Creek Road about 4 p.m. Sunday, and Scottie Manning was arrested.
The victim and suspect along with two other unidentified men had been inside the residence when an argument broke out.
“They had been drinking and got into an argument,” Heckman said. “Scottie Manning went outside and started yelling and what not, and then fired three rounds into the side of the house into the back door and one of the pellets struck Victor Manning in the leg.”
Heckman said that one of the buckshot pellets grazed Victor Manning, who refused medical treatment.
Deputies arrested Scottie Manning, and as of Monday, he was still in the Craven County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
A Mossberg 12-gauge pump shotgun and shells, reportedly owned by Scottie Manning, were confiscated at the scene, Heckman said.
“We were just fortunate that it wasn’t more serious,” Heckman said. “Anytime somebody starts firing through a closed door, there’s no telling what’s on the other side.”
