An information session for parents of children entering kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year has been scheduled for this month in Havelock.
Kindergarten: Ready, Set, Go is a free program designed to help parents prepare their children for the transition to kindergarten.
The session is scheduled for Feb. 26 at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 206 Miller Blvd. in Havelock. The pre-registration deadline for the session is Wednesday.
Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and the program runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Child care will not be provided.
The session is designed to provide information and is not for kindergarten registration, which is scheduled for March 8 at area elementary schools.
The session will feature representatives from Craven County Schools who will present information about various aspects of kindergarten enrollment, including requirements, registration and assignment policies. They will also share information that parents can use in helping their child prepare for kindergarten.
Each family attending will receive a packet containing kindergarten readiness materials and information about Craven County schools.
Craven Smart Start staff will also be on hand to share information about Smart Start services and parenting information.
Children must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible for public school kindergarten in North Carolina for the 2013-14 school year.
Kindergarten: Ready, Set, Go is a collaborative effort of Craven County Schools, Craven Smart Start and Trinity Presbyterian Church of Havelock. Now in its seventh year, the program was developed from the efforts of Craven Smart Start’s Havelock Outreach Committee.
