The Havelock Chili Festival has started taking applications for cooks, vendors and sponsors for the October event.
The festival is scheduled for Oct. 19 and 20 at Walter B. Jones Park.
Cooks are being sought for the red chili, chili verde and salsa competition as well as the popular chicken wing competition.
The cost to enter the chicken wing competition is $50. The chili verde and red chili is $45 each, and the salsa competition is $25. Membership in the International Chili Society is required and can be obtained for annual dues of $50.
The application deadline for cooks is Oct. 1. Any fees or applications submitted after Oct. 1 are subject to a $35 late fee.
Food, commercial goods, arts and crafts, and community information vendors are being sought for the festival. A 10-by-10 space is $125, a 10-by-20 space is $250, and a 20-by-20 is $500. The cost for nonprofit groups is $75. The deadline is Oct. 1.
Sponsorship packages vary from $100 to $2,500, and the deadline is Oct. 1.
The festival draws about 20,000 to 25,000 annually and raises money for various charities.
