The final day for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Havelock Senior Center.
Though originally designed for senior citizens, the program now helps all residents who feel they can’t afford the help of a professional tax preparer in filing 2013 income taxes.
Assistance is provided by program volunteers who are trained for a month and are IRS certified every year.
Those who plan to use the program must bring picture identification for the taxpayer and spouse; Social Security cards for all individuals on the tax return; last year’s tax return; all documents related to income as well as documents and receipts for medical, tax, charity, business or other deductions; documents relating to childcare expenses with provider name and identification number; checkbook or other bank documents showing account and routing number for refund direct deposits; and two copies of any power of attorney statements, divorce decrees allowing for dependent claims for tax purposes and any broker statements.
For more information on the program, contact Traci Torrie, program district coordinator, at 910-326-6239.
